Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation expands

A mega Y-shape bridge over the estuary of Pear River linking Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao is under construction, which is 50 kilometers' long and cost over 72 billion RMB.

The spectacular construction is eye-catching, but the multiplier effect of the combination of these three places is more anticipated. The one-hour transportation circle within the three places is not the only convenience the bridge made, but also the range and quality of cooperation among the three places.

Wang Yang, Party Secretary of Guangdong Province said the cooperation between the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao was more closed and aimed to more specific targets since The Guangdong-HK Framework agreement established on April 7, 2010. Guangdong Governor Huang, on behalf of the provincial Government, appreciated the help and the support of Hong Kong and Macao friends during the past year, in the Spring Festival gathering held in Hong Kong and Macao on February 14-15.

The framework agreement is planed to build the most vibrant and competitive city cluster in the Asian-Pacific region. It has further enhanced HK's status as a global financial center and speeded up Guangdong's financial services development through cooperation.

According to the recent statistics, the Hong Kong funded banks has established 95 business branches in Guangdong, while about 121 Guangdong enterprises have applied Initial Public Offer (“IPO”) in Hong Kong.

It also aims at giving full play to HK's advantage in the service industry and Guangdong's advantage in manufacturing, to establish an advanced manufacturing and modern service industry base.

At present, Hong Kong and Macao are aiming to upgrade their traditional industry and enhance the new industry on taking advantage of the cooperation with Guangdong.

The ordinary people of the three places also enjoy more exchanges. Guangdong’s top secondary school students can choose between top rate mainland universities and Hong Kong universities in the college entrance examinations.

Hong Kong medical professionals are allowed to open medical institutes in Guangdong. Last October, Guangzhou saw the first Hong Kong clinic opened in its landmark Citic Plaza. Meanwhile, Hong Kong nursing houses in Guangdong becomes new choices for Hong Kong elders for language and welfare barrier free.
